Connecticut Farmland Trust pursues re-accreditation

Land Trust Accreditation Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications

Accredited land trusts have demonstrated their commitment to national quality standards for nonprofit management and land conservation. HARTFORD, Conn. — Since 2012, the Connecticut Farmland Trust (CFT) has been independently accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission to follow best practices in land conservation.

CFT underwent re-accreditation in 2017 and is pleased to announce it is applying to renew its accreditation in 2022. Connecticut Farmland Trust is applying for renewal of its accreditation on November 30, 2022.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. Accredited land trusts have demonstrated their commitment to national quality standards for nonprofit management and land conservation. The rigorous accreditation program verifies that the land trust has systems in place to ensure the promise of land protection is a permanent one.

The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how Connecticut Land Trust complies with national quality standards. The standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/help-and-resources/indicator-practices.

Comments on Connecticut Land Trust’s application will be most useful by January 15, 2023.


Connecticut Farmland Trust is the only land trust in the state dedicated solely to the protection of agricultural land. Since its founding in 2002, CFT has protected 70 family farms, covering more than 5,200 acres. CFT, a private accredited nonprofit, works with farm owners, community organizations, and local, state, and federal agencies to protect the best Connecticut farmland for current and future generations of farmers.
