Episodes of PDPW’s The Dairy Signal this week will provide dairy farmers with information to impact and improve both their facilities and cow and calf health.

JUNEAU, Wis. — Episodes of PDPW’s The Dairy Signal this week will provide dairy farmers with information to impact and improve both their facilities and cow and calf health. On Tues., Feb. 8, learn about concrete resurfacing for dairy farms, and tune in on Wednesday for a discussion of how a cow spends her day impacts her health. The Thurs., Feb. 10 episode will focus on the greatest health risks for calves and how to prevent them.

Tuesday, Feb. 8

Learn the ins and outs of concrete resurfacing, including the process, when producers should begin thinking about taking action at their facilities and what to consider in decision making. Episode presenter will be:

Wednesday, Feb. 9
How do changes in a cow’s schedule impact lameness and other health factors? Discover what the latest research shows regarding a dairy cow’s time budget and the importance of rumination and resting for rumen pH, health and milk components. Episode presenter will be:

  • Dr. Rick Grant, president, William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute

Thursday, Feb. 10

Understand the five most deadly afflictions for calves – crypto, rotavirus, coronavirus, E. coli and salmonella – the most effective methods to prevent them and the proper protocols in cases of an outbreak. Episode presenter will be:

Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal™ is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Live sessions offer attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers; recorded sessions are available later in the day.
