GAINSVILLE, Fla. — The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture Programs for September 2019. These programs are being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez, Commercial Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 NE 39 Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32609) unless otherwise indicated.
Irrigating Wisely in Florida’s Agriculture – September 17, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Brown’s Farm (18120 NE State Rd. 26, Hawthorne, FL 32640)
Agricultural producers are invited to this FREE event on adoption of water-saving technologies, updates on how these technologies have performed in the area and how to afford them. Two Continued Education Units (CEUs) available – Core, Ag Row Pest Control, Ag Tree Pest Control, and Private Applicator.
Topics include water-saving technologies, resources, and options for farms. One of our attendees will have the chance to test a soil moisture sensor for free during the spring cropping season! The target audience is producers of horticultural and agricultural crops.

Starting & Developing a Farm Business in Florida – September 30 and October 9th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Two workshops for beginning farmers on starting a business and developing a strategic business plan.
Workshop 1: Sept. 30
Starting a Farm Business in Florida
Articulate your vision and goals; assess your resources; evaluate the suitability and feasibility of farm enterprises; and learn about business structures, registration, and regulations.
Workshop 2: Oct. 9
Developing Your Farm Business Plan
Conduct market research and a SWOT analysis. Develop a mission statement, marketing plan, operations plan, human resource plan, financial plan, and risk management plan.
Register for one workshop or both. Registration includes printed materials (primary participant only), lunch, and refreshments.

$30 primary participant, $20 secondary participant
$50 primary participant, $30 secondary participant.
An additional $10 fee will be applied to registrations after the September 23rd deadline.
