OLYMPIA, Wash. — USDA NASS released statistics on Northwest wheat production on July 12, 2022.
Winter Wheat
Based on July 1, 2022 conditions, production of winter wheat in Idaho is forecast at 65.5 million bushels, down 5 percent from the June 1, 2022 forecast, but up 44 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 720,000 acres, is up 80,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 91.0 bushels per acre, up 20.0 bushels from 2021. Oregon winter wheat production is forecast at 46.5 million bushels, up 4 percent from last month and up 46 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 715,000 acres, is up 10,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 65.0 bushels per acre, up 20.0 bushels from the previous year. Washington winter wheat production is forecast at 131 million bushels, down 1 percent from last month, but up 84 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 1.79 million acres, is up 100,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 73.0 bushels per acre, up 31.0 bushels from the previous year.
Spring Wheat
Idaho spring wheat production is forecast at 41.4 million bushels, up 35 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 450,000 acres, is down 35,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 92.0 bushels per acre, up 29.0 bushels from 2021. Washington spring wheat production is forecast at 22.3 million bushels, up 38 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 465,000 acres, is down 75,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 48.0 bushels per acre, up 18.0 bushels from the previous year.
Barley
Idaho barley production is forecast at 62.2 million bushels, up 43 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 560,000 acres, is up 70,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 111.0 bushels per acre, up 22.0 bushels from 2021. Washington barley production is forecast at 5.85 million bushels, up 120 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 75,000 acres, is up 5,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 78.0 bushels per acre, up 40.0 bushels from the previous year.
Oats
Idaho oat production is forecast at 1.17 million bushels, up 25 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 13,000 acres, is unchanged from 2021. Yield is expected to be 90.0 bushels per acre, up 18.0 bushels from 2021. Oregon oat production is forecast at 450,000 bushels, up 21 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 6,000 acres, is unchanged from 2021. Yield is expected to be 75.0 bushels per acre, up 13.0 bushels from the previous year.
