PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — Clinton County Farm Bureau received several high honors at the New York Farm Bureau State Annual Meeting, held December 5-6 in Albany, N.Y. Joe Giroux of Plattsburgh was recognized as a pillar of the agricultural community in Clinton County and New York State as the 2017 Distinguished Service Award recipient for New York Farm Bureau. The Distinguished Service Award is given to members of New York Farm Bureau in recognition of a lifetime of work promoting New York agriculture.
In addition to Mr. Giroux’s individual award, Clinton County Farm Bureau was presented with New York Farm Bureau’s highest award for program planning- the coveted Gold Key Award. In addition to the Gold Key Award, the County was awarded all 8 possible Silver Key Awards.
The Silver Key Awards are presented to county Farm Bureaus that have exhibited excellence in a variety of categories relating to effectiveness in policy implementation, promoting agriculture amongst the public and in classrooms, leadership development, and membership building. The Gold Key Award is awarded to only four counties in New York State based on highest total points in all categories of program planning.
The Silver Key Awards were presented for excellence in the following categories:
- Membership
- Agricultural Promotion and Education
- County Financials
- Information and Public Relations
- Leadership Development
- Policy Implementation- Local
- Policy Implementation- State and National
- Young Farmers
In addition, former Clinton County Farm Bureau President, Tony LaPierre from Chazy was recognized with the Distinguished President Award for overall County Farm Bureau programming in 2017.
While at the State Annual Meeting, farmer members also took part in the grassroots process of laying the groundwork for the year ahead. More than 150 delegates from across New York proposed, discussed and voted on resolutions that will guide NYFB’s public policy agenda for 2018.
Clinton County Farm Bureau is dedicated to solving the economic and public policy issues challenging the agricultural community. The county is part of New York Farm Bureau, the largest agricultural advocacy group in New York State, known to members and the public as “The Voice of New York Agriculture.”
