SACRAMENTO — Janet Edwards of the California-based Musco Family Olive Company, was recently elected the 2017-18 chair of the California League of Food Processors (CLFP).
Edwards is only the second woman to serve as CLFP’s chair in the organization’s 112-year history. She is Musco’s vice president of operations and human resources and has worked for Musco for 30 years.
Musco Family Olive Co. is based in Tracy, Calif., and is a 75-year old family business, currently led by third generation chief executive officer Felix Musco. The company is the number one branded olive supplier, taking in half of the 70-80,000 ton domestic olive crop, and has been the single largest contributor to growth in the olive category in the last 12 months. The Tracy plant has received numerous awards for sustainability in the areas of water and waste management, and was the first company in the world to become SQF Level II Certified in Ethical Sourcing.
According to Edwards one of her priorities as CLFP chair is to help grow membership.
“I’d like to help keep the momentum going in increasing and broadening our membership,” Edwards said. “We need strength both in numbers and in diversification, as we have many battles to fight on many fronts.”
Other 2017-18 CLFP officers elected were Tim Nelson of the Seneca Foods Corporation as first vice chair and Nick Kastle of VSP Products as second vice chair. Outgoing Chair Burt Fleischer of the Hilmar Cheese Company will continue as immediate past chair.
Based in Sacramento Calif., CLFP is an association representing the interests of both large and small food processors throughout California and works to help ensure a favorable and profitable business environment for its members and the food processing industry. CLFP processor members supply the nation’s consumers with premium quality fruits, vegetables, juices, sauces, cheese and dairy products, snacks, nuts, seasonings and many other foods and beverages.
