ARCADIA, Fla. — There will be a Citrus black Spot training workshop on October 26 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The workshop hosted by UF/IFAS Extension, will take place at the Turner Agri-Civic Center in Arcadia. Pre-registration is required by October 21.
The purpose of the workshop is to have citrus growers and employees become familiar with the fungal disease Citrus Black Spot. Dr. Megan Dewdney from the UF/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center (CREC) will be discussing the life cycle, different symptoms that can appear, and how to distinguish these from other citrus diseases. Management recommendations will also be discussed.
Callie Walker from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) will be discussing the regulatory protocol involved with fruit harvested from a Citrus Black Spot quarantine zone. She will also be discussing the survey and detection procedures done by FDACS for this disease.
This workshop will give growers the information they need to be prepared if Citrus Black Spot is found in our area. Two Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Restricted Use Pesticide license holders will be available for Private Applicators, Ag Tree Crop, and Demo & Research. Three CEUs for Certified Crop Advisors will be available in Integrated Pest Management.
