CHARLTON, N.Y. — This year’s summer meeting of the Christmas Tree Farmers Association of NY (CTFANY) will be held in NYS’s Hudson Valley on July 12, 13, and 14. Chip and Sally Ellms and family, owners of Ellms Family Farm in Charlton, NY, are pleased to welcome growers to their farm.
Workshops, demonstrations and discussions will be included in the 3-day event. A number of vendors will promote their equipment and supplies as related to the Christmas tree industry. There will be something of interest on the program for any Christmas tree farmer who is interested in growing a quality product and running an efficient business. Saturday’s program includes several sessions to help new growers get started. A complete schedule of events will be posted in June onwww.christmastreesny.org
On Thursday, July 12, several southern Adirondack area tree farms will be open for pre-meeting tours. The preliminary list of farms on-tap for this year’s tour is still being developed. As part of the Summer Meeting, Goderie’s Tree Farm, in nearby Johnstown, NY, will be hosting a tour and educational program on hops growing on the afternoon of July 12. Cornell Cooperative Extension hops specialists will be on hand to talk about getting started growing hops; and a local brewery will be providing a tasting that evening.
Kerith Pott, Ellms Family Farm manager said, “We are very proud of our diversified farm operation including some of the region’s leading agri-tourism programs; and look forward to sharing with fellow Christmas tree growers in July.”
Registration forms will be available on www.christmastreesny.org or request one from the CTFANY office 518-854-7386. Deadline for early bird registration is postmark June. 29.
The Saratoga area is a very popular summer tourist destination; and as such, a very limited number of hotel rooms will be available for walk-ins. Growers are urged to book their room now. CTFANY is holding a block of rooms at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Schenectady. Call 518-579-6727 (and mention Christmas tree farmers) to reserve a room. Deadline for room reservations is June 8.
