MT. CARROLL, Ill. — Certified Livestock Managers training/test took place at the Community Room in Odell Library February 16, 2018. Participants heard from University of Illinois Extension educators on topics related to best management practices for manure management and regulatory compliance. The program helps livestock producers meet the requirements defined in the Illinois Livestock Management Facilities Act (LMFA).
Livestock producers receive training toward the three-year certification through the University of Illinois Extension CLM Training workshop. The presentations provide livestock facility managers with current topics including safety, facility management, manure nutrient utilization, record keeping, and regulations. Twenty-four producers attended the training session, which included a discussion of recent Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s livestock rule updates.
The on-site workshop satisfied the IL LMFA training requirement for managers of facilities designed for 300 – 999 animal units. Producers with over 1000 animal units were additional required to take and pass a 100-question Illinois Department of Agriculture exam. The IDOA exam was offered immediately after the workshop.
