MILLBROOK, N.Y. — The Taste NY Market at Todd Hill will be hosting a special Farmers’ Market to kick off Columbus Day weekend on Friday, October 7th from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm focused on “Celebrating the Hudson Valley’s Harvest and History.” The event will showcase Todd Hill as a starting point for tourists arriving in Dutchess County and opportunities for promotion of Hudson Valley tourism and agri-tourism.

The bustling Taste NY Todd Hill Farmers’ Market is the backdrop for the event’s featured guests. Representatives from New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation’s state historic sites, Clermont and Staatsburg, will be in attendance. Local author Vernon Benjamin will be available for a book signing of THE HISTORY OF THE HUDSON RIVER VALLEY, volumes 1 and 2. There will also be extensive information on county and regional guides to U-pick orchards and farm destinations, craft breweries, vineyards and distilleries.

State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said, “The Hudson Valley is rich in history and agriculture and the Taste NY Market at Todd Hill brings together both of those unique attributes. This special Farmers’ Market event is a perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the delicious foods made right here in the local community and to explore all that the region and the Market have to offer. I encourage travelers and community members alike, to stop by and join this exciting celebration of harvest and history.”

This event was created to showcase the convenience and popularity of the historic rest area. In 1941 the rest area at Todd Hill was erected under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and is a beacon of information that directs travelers and tourists to significant destinations in the Hudson Valley.

The Taste NY Market at Todd Hill is a vibrant marketplace featuring a curated selection of food and artisanal goods grown or processed in New York State. Known by locals and explorers alike, it is an historic destination and an experience that continues to attract new and returning customers. Located in the median of the Taconic State Parkway in Dutchess County, the Taste NY Market at Todd Hill is a project of Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County (CCEDC). Todd Hill is a vehicle to deliver high impact programming to the region’s food and agricultural communities.
