TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Department of Health WIC Services and SNAP-Ed have partnered with the Trenton Farmers Market to highlight FMNP, SFMNP and SNAP at the Market.
Representatives from WIC Mercer County and the Office of Aging will be on site to process applications for farmers market checks (with proof of residency and income eligibility)* Thursday, August 8 from 10:00-2:00. Cooking demonstrations throughout the day by SNAP-Ed educators using fresh market produce, plus children’s activities and free health services. The Bronc, Rider University’s award winning radio station will be broadcasting from the Market.
On Saturday, August 10th, the market’s new manager, Chris Cirkus will be sampling the wide variety of Jersey tomatoes found at the market from 9:00-11:00.
The Trenton Farmers Market, a farmer cooperative since 1939, steeped in tradition and located at 960 Spruce Street in Lawrence is believed to be the state’s oldest continuously running farmers market. Offerings include Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables, an Amish butcher, Polish deli, two vegan eateries, bbq, sandwich and chicken eateries, fresh seafood, two bakeries, prepared foods, along with clothing, jewelry, flea market finds, watch/clock repair, and more.
New management has been busy revitalizing the market while honoring its rich agricultural history.
