MORRISVILLE, N.Y. —Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County (CCE MC) has received a significant monetary donation from the Madison County Farm Bureau (MCFB). CCE MC is delighted to have MCFB as a major partner in this important project which was made possible through a grant of $7,500 from the CNY Community Foundation and the Madison County Rural Poverty Fund.
COVID-19 farmer support packages are being organized for farmers throughout Madison County. The packages are slated to include masks, hand sanitizer, gift cards to local businesses, timely information on farm worker resources for health and safety, and notes of appreciation and encouragement. There have already been donations of masks, which have been stitched by volunteers across the state, provided by the Center for Dairy Excellence. CCE MC also received sanitizer and masks from NYS Department of Ag and Markets this week.
Support from the Madison County Farm Bureau will help to aid CCE MC in providing support to the farmers throughout the county. Shawn Bossard, Madison County Farm Bureau President says, “Our farmers continue to work hard during this pandemic to provide food for our communities, and we depend on our local businesses and suppliers for so much on our farms. Through this effort we are supporting the backbone of our rural economy, both our small businesses and our family farms. We are there for each other in good times and bad.” With this generous donation, CCE MC can expand the amount of local gift cards to be distributed and will gain additional help in distributing the care packages also. “The hope is that this will have a synergistic effect, supporting the farmers, supporting the businesses, stepping up to be there for our communities.” says Tess Southern, Agricultural Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County.
Direct donations along with donations of gift cards, cards/letters, and youth support projects for inclusion in the farmer support packages can be mailed to Cornell Cooperative Extension Madison County, P.O.
