MADISON CO., N.Y. — There are many opportunities to serve in your local community, and one of those ways is volunteering with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County (CCE MC). Serving on the board of directors for CCE MC gives you the opportunity to impact the viability of agriculture, inspire our youth to participate in Ag and STEM programming, and improve the wellness of our communities. Your strengths can benefit our local nonprofit organization and in turn, the organization can help to provide benefits to you. There are several ways that you can benefit from volunteering your time on the board of directors at CCE MC.
- The benefit of serving your community. By serving on a nonprofit board, you will be able to shed light on matters that you find particularly important in your community and then you can set to work on solving those matters with your team of board members and the staff. It is also important to represent the diversity and social cultures of your community by being a member of local leadership in an organization that serves others.
- Personal benefits of volunteering. When volunteering as a board member you can learn more about an organizations mission and begin to study the causes that the organization champions, the people it affects and who in the community supports that particular cause. Everyone has a unique group of people who surround and support them; board members bring in those connections to help develop lasting relationships with other community members. Serving as a board member can also help to strengthen skills like public speaking, financial decision making, and more. Without a doubt, you will benefit from the pride you will take in serving your local community.
- Professional benefits. The experience and knowledge that you can gain, plus the professional networking that occurs within boards, can be to a benefit you and your employer. Being on a board can expand your skill set on topics such as marketing, finance, volunteer recruitment and much more. Employers like when they see volunteering on resumes. They see and appreciate the personal investments you are making in yourself and your community.
