GREELEY, Colo. — An all-day water tour focused on agricultural operations will take place on Wednesday, May 10, and anyone who wants to take part is encouraged to join.
The day will begin at 8 a.m. at the Colorado Corn office, with presentations from Colorado Agriculture Commissioner Don Brown, along with state water experts.
The first stop of the tour will be at the operation of Colorado Corn Growers Association President Dave Eckhardt, near LaSalle.
Joining Dave to help guide the tour at Eckhardt Farms will be Colorado Corn CEO Mark Sponsler, who will also be helping with presentations during the bus ride.
Other stops during the day will include Glen Fritzler’s Farm near LaSalle, Fagerberg Produce near Eaton, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture Research Service (USDA-ARS) operations north of Greeley.
Discussions during the tour will cover the importance of irrigated agriculture, the value of Colorado agriculture, water-delivery systems in the South Platte Basin, wildlife, groundwater recharge and augmentation, irrigation efficiency, and more.
In addition to the farmers who run these operations, speakers during the day will include Colorado State University faculty and representatives of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Colorado Division of Water Resources, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, Central Colorado Water Conservancy District and Ducks Unlimited.
