GREENWOOD, Fla. — On Thursday, March 9th a Cattle and Crop BMP Farm Tour will take place in Jackson County. This half day event will begin with (free) registration at the NFREC Beef Unit (4925 HWY 162, Greenwood, FL) at 8am, and the tour bus will depart at 8:30am sharp. The group will tour two local farms before returning to the research station to view several demos prior to lunch at 12pm. To obtain a headcount for the bus and for lunch, please contact the Jackson County Extension Office 850-482-9620 by March 1st. We cannot guarantee seating or lunch for participants who do not call in.
Producers will share experiences implementing BMPs to enhance production and profit, and how the BMP Cost-Share Program has enhanced their operations. This includes equipment and practices like cross-fencing and rotational grazing management, no-till drills, cover crops, irrigation management, fertigation systems, nurse tanks, sod-based rotation, and more. NFREC faculty will discuss ongoing research on Carinata, forages, and integrated livestock/row crop systems. State & federal agency staff will discuss technical & financial assistance to implement BMPs.
