CARRINGTON, N.D. — Visitors will be able to see a compost turner and rainfall simulator in action during the Nutrient Management Day program Aug. 29 at North Dakota State University’s Carrington Research Extension Center.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Topics that will be covered and the presenters are:
- Research at the center’s livestock unit – Chanda Engel, livestock research specialist at the center
- Compost considerations and the importance of microbes in the soil – Mary Berg, area livestock environmental management specialist at the center
- Interpreting manure and soil test results – Chris Augustin, area soil health specialist at NDSU’s North Central Research Extension Center near Minot
- Manure’s role in soils – Paul DuBourt, conservationist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Foster County office
- High-quality manure compost – Megan Vig, agriculture and natural resources agent in the NDSU Extension Service’s Griggs County office
The program also includes demonstrations on pen scraping and microbial activity.
The $20 registration fee includes lunch.
