BARTOW, Fla. — Have you noticed a surge of interest in canning fruits and vegetables?
The UF/IFAS Extension Polk County Small Farms program will offer a water bath canning class on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the UF/IFAS Extension Polk County office in Bartow. The class is limited to 20 participants on a first come first served basis. Water bath canning of sweet spreads such as jams and jellies will be demonstrated.
This class will provide instruction on: how to can; necessary equipment and how to use it; pros and cons of different types of canners; what can and cannot be safely altered in a recipe; plus, what’s important for safety. Regulations that allow the sale of home canned foods will also be discussed. All classes will show complete processing procedures, use of equipment and answer all your questions. Directions, recipes and resource lists will be available to take home. You’ll go home ready to start canning!
