CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Home canning season is now upon us! All foods that are low acid, which includes vegetables (except picked products or sauerkraut), meats, soups, and all foods combined with them must be canned under pressure. To assure that your pressure canning gauge is accurate, you need to have it tested annually before you start.
Penn State Extension will be offering free gauge testing this July. To have your gauge tested, drop off your pressure canner lid with the gauge attached at the Penn State Extension office in Franklin county, 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA no later than 4:30 pm on July 14. Office hours are 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM Monday-Friday. There is no charge. The lids will be tested and can be picked up any time after July 15. For more information, contact our office at 717-263-9226, or email Lynn James, senior Extension Educator at Ljames@psu.edu
