SACRAMENTO — The Kiwifruit Administrative Committee (KAC) is seeking individuals interested in serving as public members on the KAC.
The KAC administers the federal marketing order and sets minimum quality, size, grade, and maturity standards for kiwifruit grown in California. It also collects and distributes industry statistics and serves as an industry voice and resource.
The Committee is composed of eleven grower members and alternates, and one public member and alternate. Meetings are held three times a year, generally via Zoom.
Public members represent the community, and past public members have had expertise in marketing, health, nutrition, education, and public service. Public members and their families should not be associated with the kiwifruit industry financially or otherwise. The public member and alternate positions are for a two-year term that will begin after appointment by the USDA Secretary.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) policy is that diversity of the boards, councils, and committees it oversees should reflect the diversity of their industries in terms of the experience of members, methods of production and distribution, marketing strategies, and other distinguishing factors, including but not limited to individuals from historically underserved communities, that will bring different perspectives and ideas to the table.
If you would like more information about serving as a public member on the KAC please send an email to calkiwi@agamsi.com or call Jeremy Toews, 916-621-9799.
