ALTHA, Fla. — Farmers from across the Panhandle, as well as southern Alabama and Georgia are invited to attend the 2020 Calhoun County Soil Health Field Day. The field day will be hosted by UF/IFAS Extension and the Calhoun County USDA NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service). The event will be Friday, March 13 at Melvin Family Farms. Registration and breakfast, sponsored by People’s South Bank, will begin at at 8:00 am CST with the program beginning at 8:30 am CST.
The field day is focused on sustainable soil management practices and the use and economics of cover crops in traditional row crop rotations. Featured speakers include the NRCS Florida State Agronomist, UF/IFAS Extension Specialists and UF/IFAS Extension Agents. Topics covered include management practices with conservation tillage, cover crop options and economics, and utilizing USDA cost-share conservation programs on your farm.
