FORBES ROAD, Pa. — Veterans who farm or operate agribusinesses are invited to join James Cornwell, MBA, of Nine Pines Farm, for a Business Planning Workshop on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 9 am to noon. This event is sponsored by the PA Veteran Farming Project with funding from USDA.
Since 2016, United States Navy veteran Cornwell and his spouse Becky have owned and operated this family pork, poultry, and flower operation. They sell direct to consumers and at markets in the region. Through astute business management and leveraging of resources, the farm has grown in acreage, production, and reputation to become a regional leader. Earlier this year, James mentored a transitioning soldier through the Army Career Skills Program for a two-month internship on the farm. Subsequently, the retired soldier has begun his own farm in north central PA.
Employing a combination of academic and practical knowledge, James will lead workshop participants crafting or improving their agribusiness plans. The morning will include instruction and collaborative discussion on:
- what a business plan is and why your farm needs one.
- different styles and layouts of business plans.
- items specific to farming that should be considered when formulating a business plan.
- updating and keeping your business plan “alive”.
- leveraging your business plan to work FOR You.
Admission is free for veterans and their spouses and includes a networking lunch. This event is not open to the general public at this time. To learn more and register, visit troopstotractors.org/events
