MONTICELLO, Fla. — UF/IFAS Jefferson County Extension will be hosting a Build Your Own Farm Food Safety Plan Workshop on Thursday, April 9, 2020. The training will begin at 8:00 AM eastern time, at the Jefferson County Extension Office, located at 2729 W. Washington Hwy, Monticello, Florida.
Who Should Attend?
This program is an interactive one-day workshop targeted to fresh fruit and/or vegetable farms who are interested in developing, or refining, a farm food safety plan. Most intermediate and large produce buyers now require some documented evidence of a functional food safety program from their suppliers and many other smaller and local buyers are adopting similar requirements. Many of them specifically require a third-party audit that includes requirements for a written food safety plan.
It’s recommended, but not required, that you attend a Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training course and a Beyond Basic Produce Food Safety workshop prior to attending the Build Your Own Farm Food Safety Plan workshop.
UF/IFAS Extension Jefferson County will be hosting a Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training on February 27th, 2020 and a Beyond Basic Produce Food Safety Workshop on April 8, 2020.

What to Expect?
The hardest part about developing a farm food safety plan is knowing where to start. In many cases, you’ll want your food safety plan tailored to meet the requirements of one or more third-party audit standards. We’ll start by covering all of the various third-party audit options and their respective food safety plan requirements and templates. Much of the class will be spent on a computer (limited number of loaner laptops available by prearrangement) working through the development of your own farm food safety plan.
Benefits of Attending?
After completing this workshop, you’ll have a better idea of the different third-party audit options, particularly their food safety plan requirements. You’ll also leave with your own framework for a food safety plan tailored to your unique operation and tailored to meet the requirements of your buyers or future buyers.
Cost to Attend: $35 (includes snacks and lunch)
