NEW WASHINGTON, Ohio — The Buckeye Central FFA crop committee is looking for volunteers to harvest its soybeans, as well as haul them to Sunrise Cooperative in either New Washington or Crestline.
There are approximately 30 acres of farm ground at the school. Twenty acres are in front of the school, while nine acres are beside the VoAg classroom.
Buckeye Central also is looking for volunteers to help work ground in the area to level off possible tile trenches from drainage work completed in summer 2017.
If possible, the committee would like volunteers to plant a cover crop of either wheat or cereal rye to help protect the soil from erosion, and to help improve the organic matter level of the fields. A cover crop can either be drilled or broadcast and gently worked in.
The FFA is willing to compensate any producer willing to help for seed and fuel expenses.
Anyone willing to support the Bucks’ agricultural education program by volunteering for any of the above projects, please contact Mr. Tyler Pope at 419-492-2266 or by email at tpope@bcbucks.org.
