ALBANY, Texas — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present the Shackelford County Brush Control Field Day on May 17 in Albany.
The field day will be held at the Stasney Ranch at 441 S. 2nd St. from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
If preregistered by May 10, the cost is $20; registration on-site is $30. Register in advance to kelsey.bell@ag.tamu.edu. Contact the AgriLife Extension office in Shackelford County for additional information at 325-762-9435.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units are available—two general and one integrated pest management.
The event is sponsored by Bayer, Corteva and Nutrien. Lunch is provided.
“We will venture out to view pastures that have been treated with prescribed fire, mechanical and chemical methods,” said Kelsey Bell, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Shackelford County. “This field day is a unique opportunity to better understand the various brush control methods and options available to producers.”
Brush control topics and presenters
Experts will discuss control methods, and participants will be able to view pastures that have been treated with the various methods. The field day agenda includes:
- Prescribed burn methods with pasture viewing — Lance Thomas, Stasney Ranch manager and burn boss, Albany.
- Chemical methods with pasture viewing — Mark Moon, Nutrien range and pasture sales marketing manager, Kansas.
- Lunch presentations by sponsors — Billy Campbell, Bayer regional representative, Idalou, and Jamie Halfmann, Corteva pasture and land management territory manager, Garden City, Texas.
- Mechanical methods with pasture viewing and Environmental Quality Incentives Program, EQIP — Justin Odom, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, district conservationist, Albany, and Rafael Aldrich, USDA NRCS Zone 5 rangeland management specialist, Matador.
- Discussion panel and questions.
