BURLINGTON, Vt. — A free field day for farmers will be held on Aug. 4 at Bridgeman View Farm in Franklin, Vermont, to provide updates and demonstrations on a number of water quality and crop-related topics.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes a catered lunch, sponsored by Yankee Farm Credit. The farm, owned by Tim and Martha Magnant, is located at 4826 Hanna Rd.

Farmers will learn about modifying corn practices for successful cover crop interseeding, precision sustainable agriculture and the state of soil health in Vermont. They also will get an update on the in-lake aeration system at Lake Carmi and hear from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and other state agencies.
Following lunch, participants will travel to Riverview Farm, a nearby dairy farm owned by Mike and Denna Benjamin, to view pasture manure injection, a rainfall simulation project demonstration and other best management practices.
The event is hosted by the University of Vermont Extension Northwest Crops and Soils Program, Friends of Northern Lake Champlain and Franklin Grand Isle Farmer’s Watershed Alliance.
