UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Spring is just around the corner, which means it’s almost time to vote for your favorite Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream flavor in this year’s Flavor Madness competition.
The online tournament — in which 16 flavors compete to become the year’s “scoop champion” — will begin March 13 and run four full weeks. Voting opens each Monday at 10 a.m. and closes each Friday at noon.
“We’re thrilled to be kicking off what’s become a beloved Penn State tradition,” said James Brown, assistant manager at the Creamery. “We’re excited to give people the chance to root for their favorite flavors as they get ready for spring and the warmer weather ahead.”
Voting will take place on the Creamery’s website, and participants are encouraged to share their picks on social media by using #PSUFlavorMadness. The Scoop Champion will be announced Monday, April 10, followed by a sale on the winning flavor.
Fans can choose their favorite flavors each week and can submit votes in each matchup, starting with the Berkey Creamery “Sweet 16.”
The left side of the bracket will include:
- Bittersweet Mint vs. Raspberry Fudge Torte
- WPSU Coffee Break vs. Peanut Butter Cup
- Cookies-n-Cream vs. Lion S’mores
- Vanilla Bean vs. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
The right side of the bracket will feature:
- Death by Chocolate vs. Butter Pecan
- Peachy Paterno vs. Happy Happy Joy Joy
- Alumni Swirl vs. THON Gold Ribbon Ripple
- Peanut Butter Swirl vs. Grilled Stickies
An additional “cherry on top” is that participants within the 48 continental U.S. states automatically will be entered in a drawing for a free shipment of Creamery ice cream, with a new winner chosen every week. Winners will be selected at random from the pool of each week’s players with a valid email address.
Participants must reenter each week to be eligible for that week’s prize. Winners will be contacted by email and must respond within seven business days to claim their prize. Winners will receive six pints of ice cream.
Additional discount codes will also be provided to those who participate.
Complete contest rules are available at the Berkey Creamery’s website.
