Beef Checkoff educates health professionals

New York Beef Council sponsored a nutrition webinar

New York Beef Council sponsored a nutrition webinar rally for New York health professionals.  Toby Amidor, MS, RD, presented “Incorporating Beef into a Heart Healthy and Diabetes Friendly Diet” to over 325 Nurse Practitioners, Registered Dietitians and Physician Assistants via webinar on May 13.  Amidor clarified misconceptions that special diets for people with cardiovascular disease and diabetes cannot include red meat, specifically beef. ROME, N.Y. — New York Beef Council sponsored a nutrition webinar rally for New York health professionals.  Toby Amidor, MS, RD, presented “Incorporating Beef into a Heart Healthy and Diabetes Friendly Diet” to over 325 Nurse Practitioners, Registered Dietitians and Physician Assistants via webinar on May 13.  Amidor clarified misconceptions that special diets for people with cardiovascular disease and diabetes cannot include red meat, specifically beef. Amidor discussed the research showcasing how lean beef can fit into a heart healthy and diabetes-friendly diet. Meal ideas and recipes with lean beef, along with culinary techniques of selecting and cooking lean cuts were shared for a heart healthy and diabetes-friendly diet.

Post survey feedback showed that over 91% of the participants had a positive or strongly positive perception of beef after the presentation. Nearly 80% stated they would consider beef in a heart healthy and diabetes diet for their clients and patients. One participant stated that they felt the presentation was very informative citing many research studies and found the overall message and correction of common misperceptions by the presenter helpful!
