IOWA FALLS, Iowa — A beef cattle stockmanship and pasture management workshop will be held Tuesday, July 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Summit Farms Cow-Calf Facility located at 22213 230th Avenue near Hubbard. Kick-off speaker will be Dr. Tom Noffsinger from Benkelman, Nebraska. He will do a live demonstration on cattle handling methods that improve animal movement and cattle performance by reducing stress on livestock. He will demonstrate low stress cattle handling methods for herding cattle from pasture or processing through corrals.
After lunch, a pasture walk will be led by ISU Extension Beef Specialists Russ Euken and Joe Sellers. They will discuss grazing management practices and methods to improve pasture quality and forage production. After the pasture walk, producers have the option of completing Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification. BQA is the foundation for the Tyson FarmCheck program which will be required for all who sell cattle to Tyson in 2019 and is also required by Cargill.
The workshop and lunch are free but advance registration is requested to plan for lunch and resource materials. To register, call Hardin County Extension at 641-648-4850 or toll free 1-888-648-5005 or email xhardin@iastate.edu
