INDIANAPOLIS — Registrations are currently being accepted for a charter bus tour of successful forage and livestock farms in Putnam County on July 6, 2019. The Field Day is being organized by the Indiana Beef Cattle Association and the Indiana Forage Council. The tour entitled, “Beef-Forage Management Tour” will showcase three farms that are utilizing successful beef cattle management techniques, utilizing alternative forages for grazing and stored feed and marketing methods of beef cattle.
Tour stops will include the Willer Timber Ridge Farm, J&K’s Birt Farms and Hodgen Farms in Roachdale. Participants will learn about cattle operations that rely on both grazed and harvested forages as well as the use of crop residue and byproducts in a newly constructed monoslope feeding barn.
