WEST PLAINS, Mo. — University of Missouri Howell County Extension will host their annual Beef and Forage Conference starting at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 5 with registration and a meal.
The conference will be held at the Howell County Extension Center, 1376 Bill Virdon Blvd., West Plains.
Guest speakers for the evening are Dr. Bryon Wiegand and Donna Brandt.
Dr. Bryon Wiegand, professor with University of Missouri, will be discuss “Navigating the Alternative Protein Marketplace: Laboratory Grown Meat and Meat Analogs.” Recent advances in processing technology have led to the possibility of laboratory-produced meat without the direct use of a live, livestock animal.
Donna Brandt, Research Specialist at MU Soil Health Assessment Center, will discuss “Soil Health in Missouri Grasslands.” She will define soil health and discuss soil health in differing soils and land uses. She will also discuss the benefits of promoting soil health and the management techniques to promote soil health in grasslands.
Pre-paid registration is required with a fee of $10 per person. Registration includes a dinner and reference materials. Deadline to pre-register is Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
