HURON, S.D. — The South Dakota State Fair is excited to announce that BankWest has made a $250,000 contribution to the DEX: Dakota Events CompleX. The DEX is a new, multipurpose livestock and equestrian complex at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron.
The DEX will provide exhibit space for over 13,000 4-H and FFA students across the state and expand the event hosting capabilities of the fairgrounds. Throughout the year, the DEX will also serve as a major draw for livestock shows, 4-H competitions, FFA Conventions, and rodeos as well as concerts, thrill shows, and more from across the country.
“At BankWest, we remain deeply committed to investing in partnerships such as the DEX facility that support South Dakota’s ag economy and the development of our future ag leaders. The various events, learning opportunities and activities that will take place at the DEX will benefit citizens across our entire state,” said BankWest Chairman, President and CEO Charles H. Burke III.
Founded in 1889, BankWest is a full-service, community bank headquartered in Pierre, South Dakota. The bank provides banking, trust, insurance, title, and investment services at 17 full-service branches in 15 South Dakota communities, as well as stand-alone insurance agencies in five additional communities.
The DEX is the new multipurpose livestock and equestrian facility replacing the Open Class Beef Complex destroyed by fire in 2020. The 150,000 square-foot facility will be able to house two full-sized equestrian arenas and seat up to 5,000 people and have two show rings with 1,700 cattle stalls. The facility will be heated for year-round usage. The DEX will have a pre-function and concession area with restrooms. The DEX will be open for the 2023 State Fair.
