BELVIDERE, Ill. — Do you have fruit trees in your backyard or are you looking to add some this year? University of Illinois Extension in Boone County will be offering a Backyard Orchard program. Grant McCarty, Local Foods and Small Farms Educator with U of I Extension will be offering a Backyard Orchard program to help get you prepared for the growing season and answer any questions you may have.
“Commonly, homeowners want to plant new fruit trees or manage a backyard trees better. Especially with this winter, many may even be wondering how this weather will effect their fruit trees this upcoming season,” said Grant McCarty.
The Backyard Orchard program will provide an overview for those who currently have fruit trees or are considering planting trees. This program will go into selection, day 1 tasks, pruning, insects/diseases, and additional production practices. Peaches, cherries, apple, pear, and other fruit trees will be covered.
This program will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at the Boone County Extension meeting room located at 205 Cadillac Ct., Suite 5 in Belvidere. It will be offered at two different times; 10:00am-12:00pm and 5:30pm-7:30pm.
The fee to attend is $10 per person. Registration can be done by calling the Boone County Extension office at 815-544-3710 or online at web.extension.illinois.edu/bdo.
