CAMP HILL, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) has reported four additional outbreaks of avian influenza in commercial turkey flocks in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County over the past week, bringing the total number of such premises to six and the number of birds affected to approximately 75,000. Control areas and surveillance zones have been established for all sites, with depopulation taking place. PDA has also reported that the Control Area and Surveillance Zone around the Adams 02 premises have been released, and that the Adams County sample drop off site is now closed.
Finally, the PDA/USDA Joint Incident Command Team needs to hear from any farms or companies who conduct international poultry commerce with Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, and the Philippines. PDA states that this is a general survey to keep PA/USDA Joint Incident Command up to date on what countries Pennsylvania’s poultry industry conducts business with on a routine basis.
This information is helpful to guide policy decisions in the interest of protecting and maintaining international commerce throughout the HPAI outbreak. Those entities should contact the PDA Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services at 717-772-2852.
