OLYMPIA, Wash. — Winter wheat acres planted in Idaho are estimated at 780,000 acres, up 70,000 acres from last year. Harvested area is forecast at 720,000 acres, up 13 percent from 2021. In Oregon, acres planted to winter wheat are estimated at 730,000 acres, up 10,000 acres from the previous year. Acres to be harvested are forecast at 715,000 acres, up 1 percent from 2021. Acres planted to winter wheat in Washington are estimated at 1.85 million acres, up 100,000 acres from last year. Harvested area is forecast at 1.79 million acres, up 6 percent from 2021. Nationally, winter wheat acres planted totaled 34.0 million acres, up 1 percent from last year. Harvested area is expected to total 25.0 million acres, down 2 percent from 2021.
Spring wheat acres planted in the Northwest Region are down 14 percent from 2021. Idaho spring wheat planted acres increased from 510,000 acres in 2021 to 470,000 acres in 2022. Washington spring wheat planted area at 470,000 acres, is down 110,000 from 2021.
Corn acres planted for all purposes in Idaho are estimated at 360,000 acres, down 20,000 acres from 2021. Corn harvested for grain area is forecast at 120,000 acres, unchanged from 2021. In Oregon, acres planted to corn for all purposes are estimated at 75,000 acres, down 20,000 acres from 2021. Acres to be harvested for grain are forecast at 40,000 acres, down 27 percent from the previous year. Acres planted to corn for all purposes in Washington are estimated at 190,000 acres, up 25,000 acres from 2021. Corn harvested for grain acres are forecast at 95,000 acres, up 12 percent from the previous year.
All hay harvested area in Idaho is expected to total 1.29 million acres, up 4 percent from 2021. In Oregon, all hay harvested area is estimated at 970,000 acres, up 9 percent from last year. All hay harvested area in Washington is expected to total 740,000 acres, up 4 percent from the previous year. All hay harvested area in Alaska is expected to total 22,000 acres, up 16 percent from the previous year. In the United States, all hay harvested area is estimated at 51.5 million acres, up 2 percent from last year.
Potato acres planted in Idaho are estimated at 290,000 acres, down 8 percent from the previous year. Harvested area, at 289,500 acres, is also down 8 percent from the previous year. In Oregon, growers planted an estimated 42,000 acres of potatoes, down 7 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 42,000 acres, is down 6 percent from last year. Washington growers planted an estimated 165,000 acres of potatoes, up 3 percent from the previous year. Harvested area, at 164,500 acres, is up 3 percent from 2021. Nationally, area planted to potatoes is estimated at 910,000 acres, down 3 percent from last year. Harvested area is forecast at 902,200 acres, down 4 percent from 2021.
