RALEIGH, N.C. — This week the Drought Monitor map indicates that large portions of North Carolina are drying out. Even after a hurricane and reasonable rainfall throughout most of the spring and summer, the current dryness is taking its toll on agriculture, yards, and potentially setting us up for wildfires.
The Cooperative Extension article Living with Fire: a Guide for the Homeowner, outlines ways in which you can protect your family and property from wildfire devastation. This document is as relevant to the farm owner as it is to the homeowner. One of the keys is starting early. Don’t wait until you learn that a fire is imminent, to clean up around your house or replace highly flammable plants in the vicinity. Preparation today may protect your home and belongings tomorrow.
