TOPEKA, Kan. — The deadline is nearing for producers impacted by the wildfires and severe weather last month to apply for relief funds through the Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF). Applications are due January 31 and can be accessed by going to www.kla.org or by calling KLA at (785) 273-5115. Questions on the form ask about livestock, fence and structures lost, grazing acres burned and veterinary costs to treat sick or injured animals. Applicants do not have to be KLA members.
As of January 20, KLF had collected more than $1.6 million for wildfire and severe storm relief. The total came from 1,402 individuals and companies. All the proceeds will be used to help livestock producers rebuild following the events of December 15, 2021.
Recent large contributions came from the Florida Cattlemen’s Foundation at $17,775 and the South Central Cattlemen’s Association of Nebraska at $10,000. Donations continue to be accepted and can be made by going to www.kla.org or sending a check to KLF at 6031 SW 37th Street, Topeka, KS 66614. Please put “wildfire relief” in the memo line.
