SHELDON, Iowa — Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is now accepting registrants for Annie’s Project, a program focused on empowering women in agriculture, to be held in Sheldon during April and May 2017.
Annie’s Project is a six-session course created to guide women in making good decisions for their farm business. It will be held at Northwest Iowa Community College beginning Thursday, Apr. 20 and continuing Tuesday, Apr. 25, and the following Thursdays: Apr. 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18. There will be a meal at 5:30 p.m. and the session will last from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
“Annie’s Project is the agricultural business education program that empowers farm and ranch women who want to be more knowledgeable about their agricultural enterprises,” said Gary Wright, Farm Management Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “One of the foundations of Annie’s Project is that women learn best with and from other women, so whenever possible, the sessions will be led by women who are experts in their field. We strive to create a comfortable and supportive learning environment focused on the best farm management practices.”
Course participants will learn effective strategies to make good decisions in five key management areas including financial, human resources, legal, marketing, and production topics. The course will include guest speakers, practical hands-on activities, decision-making resources, and networking with other women in agriculture.
“Whether women are the sole operators of their agricultural operation or working in partnership with their spouse or other business partners, Annie’s Project provides women with the knowledge and resources they need to be successful in the industry,” Wright said. “We had a lot of interest in our current Annie’s Project session that is running in Sibley, and so we decided to offer a program in Sheldon in hopes of drawing participants from a variety of surrounding counties.”
There is a $75 course fee to participate in Annie’s Project in Sheldon. Wright recommends registering soon as space is limited and classes tend to fill up quickly.
