ALFRED STATION, N.Y. — You are cordially invited to attend the 4th Annual Allegany County Farmer Neighbor Dinner to be held Wednesday September 27, 2017 at the Lake Lodge located at 6107 Terbury Road in Alfred Station.
The evening hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany County, Soil & Water Conservation District, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency & Farm Bureau will begin at 5:30 pm with a Taste of Local Farms and Agricultural Business Exhibits. A great opportunity to browse while engaging with members of the farming community.
You will experience a gourmet dinner featuring locally grown and raised products exquisitely prepared by ACES Catering. Followed by our keynote speaker, Dr. Allison Chatrchyan presenting Climate Smart Farming – A look at resources available to enhance adaptability to more extreme and variable weather, increasing resiliency and sustainability.
As the Director of the Cornell Institute for Climate Change and Agriculture, and a Sr. Research Associate in the departments of Development Sociology and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Allison Chatrchyan’s work focuses at the interface between social, environmental and agricultural systems.
She works to facilitate interdisciplinary research and extension teams that are co-developing resources and tools for sustainable agriculture and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Trained as a political scientist, the goal of Dr. Chatrchyan’s research is to contribute to an improved understanding of human behavior and social and political institutions, to support increased resiliency and reduced climate impacts. Specifically, she assesses stakeholder beliefs and actions and analyzes the effectiveness of climate change policy and governance mechanisms.
