GRAND FORKS, N.D. — There was a familiar name at the North Dakota State High School Science Fair held last Friday at the University of North Dakota Memorial Union in Grand Forks.
Lia Enander who is a junior at Grenora (ND) High School exhibited a project that tested the effects of plant regulators naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and gibberellic acid (GA) to see if NAA and GA combined would grow the most potatoes of smaller size which is more desireable for seed potato growers.
Lia’s small test plot concluded that GA alone had the most potatoes although they were slightly larger. Lia also concluded the experiment would need much more testing to concur accurate information.
Lia is the daughter of Tom and Corrie Enander who operate Enander Seed Farm near Grenora, North Dakota. The Enander Seed Farm specializes in providing high-quality base seed potatoes to the industry.
Proud grandparents Neil and Cornelia Jonk stopped by to see Lia. The Jonk’s are also well known in
the seed business and operate Jonk Seed Farm near Forest River, North Dakota. Another daughter, Maria and her husband Adam Carter are involved in that business.
