STOCKTON, Mo. — The Alfalfa workshop that was schedule for August 1st in Dadeville was canceled due to low registration (5 people registered) and the main presenter Pat Miller being sick. The workshop has been rescheduled for August 15th at the same time and location which was 4:00 p. m. at the Dadeville High School Ag classroom in Dadeville, Mo. The cost is still $35 and the registration deadline in now August 14th. “Alfalfa is a warm season legume that provides high quality forage for grazing and hay production in the summer months,” says Patrick Davis MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist. In addition, alfalfa can be a very valuable hay crop to hay producers.
“To be successful with alfalfa in your hay and or livestock operation proper growth, management, harvesting, and feeding should be done,” says Davis. In addition, “proper marketing and economics of alfalfa production should be observed to increase profit potential of the alfalfa enterprise in your farming operation,” says Davis. Therefore, MU Extension will be providing a workshop titled “Alfalfa 101: Establishing a Stand, Starting Production, Harvesting, Feeding and Economics.” This workshop will be August 15th at the Dadeville High School Ag Classroom (17 Bearcat Trail, Dadeville, Mo. 65635) from 4:00 p. m. to 8:30 p. m.
MU Extension agriculture field specialists will provide the education. Topics and speakers are as follows:
· Alfalfa Stand Establishment, Starting Production, and Harvesting-Pat Miller, MU Extension Regional Agronomy Field Specialist, Nevada, Mo.
· Feeding alfalfa to cattle-Patrick Davis, MU Extension Regional Livestock Field Specialist, Stockton, Mo.
· Economics of growing alfalfa- Wesley Tucker, MU Extension Regional Agriculture Business Field Specialist, Bolivar, Mo.
Cost of the event is $35 per person, which covers the evening meal and other workshop expenses. Fee payment along with registration needs to done by August 14th to the Dade County MU Extension Center (2 N. Main Street, Greenfield, Mo. 65661) at 417-637-2112.
