BROWNFIELD, Texas — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has named Geoff Cooper as the agency’s new agent for agriculture and natural resources in Terry County.
The announcement naming Cooper to the post Oct. 30 was made by Terry County Judge J.D. Wagner and Michael Clawson, AgriLife Extension administrator at Lubbock.
“Geoff is an excellent choice for Terry County,” Clawson said. “His finger is on the pulse of the county as he was raised there and has farmed and worked in agribusiness in the county for a number of years. He also has a strong background in agricultural education and remains active both civically and professionally. I expect he will be a key asset for the county as well as to our agency.”
Cooper graduated from Brownfield High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from Texas Tech University.
He worked as an agronomist and cotton sales representative for Brownfield Seed Delinting, farmed for 13 years in Terry County and was an agriculture science instructor from 1990-2002 in Wellman, Denver City and Meadow, respectively.
Cooper serves as a member of the board of trustees for the Brownfield Independent School District, is chairman of the Terry County Farm Service Agency, vice-chairman of the Terry Soil and Water Conservation Board and a board member of the Terry County Livestock Association.
His accomplishments during his high school teaching days included being nominated to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, fielding a state-qualifying Dairy Products Team, and coordinating and developing a cotton and small grains farming program for students.
