Agri-Services Agency (ASA) Benefits Specialist Richard Davidson covers the Mountain Region of the US, which includes Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, and parts of California. Davidson has worked for ASA for 3 years and has a degree from June Weaver State University in Technical Sales. Davidson is based out of Syracuse, Utah, his home state.
After graduating from college, Davidson spent 5 years working in law enforcement. “I decided it wasn’t the most family friendly job, and that’s when I pursued using my degree in sales,” said Davidson. “I worked at Enterprise, then cars.com, before transitioning to selling insurance to seniors, and then moved to my job here ASA. Working on the SWAT team for two years was a strain on my wife and daughter, I wanted a job with more flexibility and safety. That’s when I found an opening at ASA. With ASA, I spend a great deal of my time working with dairy farms but I also work with all different types of ag based operations. Coming from the car industry, working with my customers on benefit options is a nice change, employers understand the importance of getting coverage for their workers. It’s great to work with employers who genuinely want to help their employees. Seeing the expressions and the joy that they get when they realize they can cover their workers without spending a fortune is a real treat. For example, I was able to enroll a farm at the beginning of the year, and a week later one of the owners got in a car accident. It just shows you never know when an accident is going to happen. The owner didn’t have insurance before so it’s great she was covered, I’m so happy I was able to help. In addition to working with great customers and prospects, I really enjoy the work and home life balance that ASA offers and the travel.”
As a benefits consultant, Davidson works primarily with the owners and managers of farms. “I walk them through the information that they need to have for their employees and help them understand their coverage options,” said Davidson. “As a broker, we can offer multiple choices, price points, and plans to get our customers the best coverage for employer and employees. Once we develop a plan for the employer, I work with the employees and go over their options. I also speak Spanish, and that helps with going over the plans and explaining what it covers.”
Davidson has found working for ASA to be a great fit over the past three years. “I enjoy what I do. I have a great team that supports me, upper management is fantastic, and I enjoy helping my customers with their benefits and explaining what life insurance can offer as well. It can be really rewarding. With ASA we have flexibility to work from home, which is great, so Covid-19 hasn’t had a major affect my job, though it’s been a bit tougher to get a hold of farm and business owners. I’m looking forward to being able to get back on the road and meeting my customers face to face as things get back to normal.”
