ATHENS, Pa. — Agri-Services Agency (ASA) Regional Sale Agent Jordan Wollenberg covers the Central Region for ASA, working with businesses in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. Wollenberg joined ASA in 2016, after receiving a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Misercordia University, and working in Washington, DC for a while. “I wasn’t in love with working in the DC,” said Wollenberg. “I moved back home where there was an ASA service center nearby and got a job in their healthcare division, not long after I was getting trained in property and casualty insurance that I focus on now. I really enjoy working with the people my customers and meeting new people, and what I’m doing to help them.”
Originally from Towanda, Pennsylvania, Wollenberg jumped at the chance to move to the Central Region because he had family living there. “My brother had moved out here about seven before me,” said Wollenberg. “So, when there was an opportunity to take a position out here, it was a good idea career move, and I had family to make the transition easier.
Besides ensuring farmers are protected, Wollenberg enjoys the variety that the job brings. “I enjoy talking to new people and learning about their experiences,” said Wollenberg. “Hearing about life from different people located in different areas of the country is fun. I like to travel, and while you wouldn’t think that traveling in some very rural areas is fun, the things you find are really interesting.
Wollenberg’s focus is on property, liability, and worker’s compensation insurance. “Pre-pandemic, I would spend most of the week out with potential or current customers, and a couple of days in the office where you would answer questions or work on the things needed to keep your license current,” said Wollenberg. “We’ve all adapted and tried to make up for not being out in the field with virtual meetings and phone calls. I love what I do because it’s all about protecting people and the different aspects of their lives. Protecting farmers is something that makes me feel good about what I’m doing when I lay down at night. We’re helping some of the most important people in the country. Sometimes insurance gets a bad rap. It’s not always a fun thing to have to deal with, but at the end of the day I’m here to help. I want to make sure everyone can take care of themselves and their loved ones if something goes wrong. I want to be there to help them get back on their feet.”
Wollenberg sees a lot of value in having good insurance for his clients. “For farmers, it’s not just a business, it’s their lives,” said Wollenberg, “And insurance protects the way of life that they’ve built for themselves. If they’ve had some sort of fire or other disaster it could be millions of dollars to replace what they’ve lost. Without insurance that can be nearly impossible. It’s a way to protect the things that they’ve put their sweat-equity into. It makes it so they can protect their investment and hand it off to the next generation.”
