SEDALIA, Mo. — The Missouri State Fair celebrated Youth in Agriculture Day, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture, Saturday, Aug. 19. The annual Sale of Champions underscored the theme of the day, raising a record-breaking $171,050 for exhibitors and Youth in Agriculture scholarships.
During the event, Director Chinn presented a check to the Youth in Agriculture scholarship fund for $17,000. These dollars were raised at the Missouri Department of Agriculture Golf Classic in June, thanks to teams and sponsors including Starline Brass, Missouri Pork Association, Missouri Grown, Missouri Department of Conservation, FCS Financial, H3 Cattle Co. and Nestle Purina PetCare Company.
The Grand Champion Steer was exhibited by Katelyn Gillum of Unionville. Her 1,355-pound crossbred steer sold for an all-time high of $28,500, and was purchased by Dairy Queen/Guesa USA LLC and Steak ‘n Shake/Guesa USA LLC/Jorge Guevara of Sedalia.
