SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois State Fair is well underway and the Illinois Department of Agriculture, along with BRANDT, is excited to once again offer fairgoers the chance to learn more about agriculture on the daily Ag Tours. These interactive tours give fairgoers the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at Illinois agriculture on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
“Ag Tours provide a wonderful opportunity for those not directly connected to the agriculture industry to learn more about our state’s number one industry,” said Director of the Department of Agriculture, Raymond Poe. “At each stop you learn something new from those who live, eat, breathe, and sleep Illinois agriculture. These folks are passionate and full of information – from how long it takes for milk to travel from the farm to the grocery store to how long it takes to train a champion race horse.”
This twice daily tour departs from the Illinois Department of Agriculture tent. Each tour takes fairgoers on a guided tram ride throughout the fairgrounds. The guides are members of Illinois FFA and have received high praise for their knowledge and excitement. Tour participants learn about the Illinois agriculture industry, including beef, dairy, swine, horse racing, goats, rabbits, corn, soybeans, and pollinators. Each Ag Tour participant receives a goodie bag full of items from the various commodity groups, including some coupons!
The tours have been a huge success so far and there are still plenty of opportunities for fairgoers to hop on a tour and enjoy all the agricultural areas that the Fair has to offer.
Ag tours begin at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day through August 19th.
