SENECA FALLS, N.Y. — Advocates for the agricultural industry of New York State will gather at the Ag Leadership Luncheon sponsored by Farm Credit East on Wednesday, August 8 at the 2018 Empire Farm Days at Rodman Lott and Son Farms in Seneca Falls, NY.
The luncheon program includes a welcome by retiring Empire State Potato Growers Executive Director Melanie Wickham and introduction of the new Empire State Potato Growers Executive Director Alexandra Grimm and Assistant Executive Director Jamie Meyer. Grimm and Meyer will comprise the new Empire Farm Days Show Management Team with Chase Brown as the incoming Site Coordinator for the event.
Farm Credit East, American Agriculturist magazine and Empire Farm Days will present the 2018 New York State Agricultural Environmental Management Award to David and Beverly Stamp of Lakewood Vineyards of Watkins Glens, NY.
The New York State Agribusiness Association will briefly announce its new 4R Nutrient Stewardship Management Initiative, a collaboration with The Fertilizer Institute, Washington, DC; and The Nature Conservancy. Commercial fertilizer dealers and agricultural applicators will be invited to voluntariiy participate in a 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification program.
Also at the luncheon, the Empire State Potato Growers will recognize their 2018 scholarship winner: Megan Ruth Lamb of Hamilton, NY. Megan is the NYS FFA Vice-President and was one of four finalists for a 2017 National FFA Proficiency Award for Agriscience Research in Plant Systems. She is the daughter of Neil and Beth Lamb of Country Lamb Farm in Hamilton.
Exhibits at Empire Farm Days, which is the largest outdoor agricultural trade show in the northeastern U.S., include a New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets booth with information on programs and initiatives to assist farmers, farmers’ market managers, school food program leaders, veterinarians, and land and water resource managers. Show visitors will learn about such programs as New York Grown and Certified, Farm to School, Food Safety Education Certification, and Farmland Protection.
Empire Farm Days with working field equipment demonstrations, live animals, crop plots, test driving experiences, and seminars on everything from dairy production and beef cattle handling to soil health, horse training, and worker safety; and more. Visitors can even try watercraft on the farm pond at Rodman Lott and Son Farms, 2973 State Route 414, Seneca Falls. Admission is free, parking is $10 per vehicle.
