WASECA, Minn. — As a result of COVID-19, so many events, gatherings, and outdoor celebrations have been canceled, but Farmamerica – MN’s Center for Agricultural Interpretation- is open and offering a great outdoor experience for individuals and families looking for a pet-friendly, paved walking path and some fun on the farm at safe social distances.
For Farmamerica, the summer fun kicks off on Friday, June 26 from 5-8 p.m. during their Barnyard Bash, an event that’s part of their Family Farm Night series for this summer. During this special event, visitors can interact with farm animals, wander through the corn maze, and play yard games like giant Jenga, bean bag toss, and giant twister. Visitors can also play in the newly constructed sandbox and dirt bin before making a wildflower seed bomb to take home. All of this and more will take place rain or shine in the outdoors and open-air at Farmamerica.
Space is limited for all Farmamerica events to allow safe social distancing. Event registration is available at Farmamerica.org.
July is filled with even more open hours and activities from Goat Yoga featuring local yoga health and wellness studio, Awaken Vibrance of Waseca, to a DIY makers event featuring Hammer & Stain SoMN of Waseca.
Farmamerica’s walking path is open by reservation. Visitors can experience a self-guided walking tour of the historic farm sites with Farmamerica’s mobile app, or they can request a guided tour by a trained interpreter.
“In the spring our site is normally bustling with 3rd through 8th-grade students from different area schools, all experiencing the fun of the farm and learning about careers in ag. But with everything going on, we had to adapt; we were excited to offer virtual programming to the students this spring, but it’s just not the same as experiencing it first hand. We’ve already had visitors for walking tours of our historic farm sites, and that brings new life to the Farmamerica site. We are so excited to open our doors on June 26 and welcome visitors back to the farm,” said Farmamerica’s Program Director, Samantha Meyer.
The next Family Farm Night is July 31 with a Dirt Detectives theme.
