Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers are a broadly talented and skilled group of citizen scientists who have undergone rigorous training to earn the title of Master Gardener. Their backgrounds include visual artists, musicians, teachers, medical and legal professionals, civil servants, farmers, clerks and housewives. Most “cross-pollinate” by additional participation in other volunteer organizations. All share their skills to educate the public about responsible and enjoyable gardening.
The art show ranges from quilts to oils, photos to acrylics, watercolors and charcoals and the culinary portion will include local wines and beers to enhance the delectable samples.
This art show serves the dual purpose of showcasing the artistic and culinary skills of the MGVs and providing a fund raising opportunity via a silent auction to be held on June 30 at the closing reception. The funds are designated to help defray the expense of a trip to the 2019 International Master Gardener Convention, which is held every two years. This moves to different venues each time, and will be “nearby” in 2019, in Pennsylvania. It is a unique opportunity to expand the networking and educational range of our volunteers on a national and world level.
The Master Gardener Volunteers of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties mission is to provide research-based gardening information and services to county residents such as soil testing, identification of pests and diseases, and answering gardener’s horticultural questions.
