BROOMFIELD, Colo. — As I began to look forward to the many activities and events that September brings, a common theme became clear: Colorado’s youth. Thousands from Colorado’s ag communities watched with pride as our young people, many in FFA and 4H programs, exhibited, showed and volunteered through Labor Day at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo.
As students across Colorado begin their school year, Colorado Reader newspapers will arrive in nearly 1,800 grade school classrooms across the state. Produced in partnership with the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, this month’s Reader teaches 4th-6th graders all about Colorado produce.
On September 18, more than 130,000 students in schools across the state will take part in Colorado Proud School Meal Day, helping them connect the food they eat to where and how it’s grown. And on September 21, CSU students and fans will partake in an ag celebration like no other–the annual Ag Day barbecue and football game on campus.
Knowing that so many young people in Colorado are excited about agriculture underscores the importance of one of our main goals at CDA–to support the next generation of ag. It’s also a good reminder that they are always watching and learning from us. Let’s set an example by focusing on what’s most important: Working together to advance Colorado agriculture.
Thank you, as always, for supporting Colorado agriculture.
