OLYMPIA, Wash. — USDA NASS released statistics on hemp production in the Northwest Region.
Industrial hemp in the open: Idaho planted area in 2023 for all utilizations totaled 1,270 acres, up 87 percent from 2022. Area harvested for all purposes in the open totaled 1,260 acres, up 183 percent from the previous year. Oregon planted area in 2023 for all utilizations totaled 2,300 acres, up 10 percent from 2022. Area harvested for all purposes in the open totaled 2,050 acres, up 8 percent from the previous year. Washington planted area in 2023 for all utilization totaled 335 acres, down 11 percent from 2022. Area harvested for all purposes in the open totaled 275 acres, down 23 percent from the previous year.
Floral hemp in the open: Oregon floral hemp production grown in the open for 2023 was estimated at 1.78 million pounds, up 30 percent from the previous year. Area harvested for floral hemp in the open was estimated at 1,850 acres, down 3 percent from the previous year. The average Oregon yield for 2023 floral hemp in the open was estimated at 960 pounds per acre, up 240 pounds per acre from the previous year. The value of utilized production floral hemp grown in the open totaled $116 million, up 68 percent from the previous year. Washington floral hemp production grown in the open for 2023 was estimated at 101,000 pounds, down 76 percent from the previous year. Area harvested for floral hemp in the open was estimated at 160 acres, down 24 percent from the previous year. The average Washington yield for 2023 floral hemp in the open was estimated at 630 pounds per acre, down 1,370 pounds per acre from the previous year. The value of utilized production floral hemp grown in the open totaled $2.86 million, down 88 percent from the previous year.
Fiber hemp in the open: In 2023, Oregon production of hemp grown in the open for fiber was estimated at
387,000 pounds, up 124 percent from the previous year. Area harvested for hemp grown in the open for fiber was estimated at 225 acres, up 127 percent acres from 2022. The average yield for 2023 hemp grown in the open for fiber was estimated at 1,720 pounds per acre, down 30 pounds per acre from the previous year. The value of utilized production hemp grown in the open for fiber in Oregon totaled $477,000, up 23 percent from the previous year.
